Atif Khalil is Associate Professor of History and Religion and Director of the Catherine and Mushtaq Khan Endowment for the Study of Islam at the University of Lethbridge where he teaches courses on Islamic mysticism, theology, philosophy, and art. Author of Repentance and the Return to God (SUNY Press, 2018) and more than thirty academic articles on Sufism, Islamic theology and philosophy, virtue ethics, the Judeo-Islamic tradition, and the contemporary study of Islam, he is also co-editor of In Search of the Lost Heart (SUNY Press, 2012) and Mysticism and Ethics in Islam (AUB Press, 2022). At present, Professor Khalil is working on a monograph on the theory and practice of dhikr in Sufism.
