Fatemeh Keshavarz

Fatemeh Keshavarz is Professor and Roshan Institute Chair in Persian Studies at the University of Maryland. An award-winning author and published poet in Persian and English, her books include Reading Mystical Lyric: The Case of Jalal al-Din Rumi (1998), Recite in the Name of the Red Rose: Poetic Sacred Making in Twentieth-Century Iran (2006), Jasmine and Stars: Reading More Than Lolita in Tehran (2007), and Lyrics of Life: Sa‘di on Love, Cosmopolitanism, and Care of the Self (2014). As a public intellectual, Professor Keshavarz works on cultural education in service of world peace, a topic on which she addressed the UN General Assembly and for which she was awarded the Hershel Walker Peace & Justice Award by People’s Weekly.
