Muhammad Suheyl Umar served as the Director of Pakistan’s Iqbal Academy for over thirty years, and has held many prominent positions throughout his career, including those of Academic Director of the Institute of Islamic Culture, Visiting Scholar at the International Institute of Islamic Thought and Civilization in Malaysia, and Professor of Humanities and Social Sciences at the University of Central Punjab, Lahore. Professor Umar has published many distinguished translations of Arabic, Persian, Urdu, and English works into Urdu and English, and has written extensively in the fields of Islamic philosophy and mysticism, comparative religion, and the thought and poetry of Muhammad Iqbal.
